About Gawgi

Our Story

On World Environment Day – June 5, 2025 – the Global Air Water Generation Initiative was officially born. Twin inaugural summits in New Delhi, India and Washington DC, USA marked the launch of a bold, coordinated global movement to redefine how the world secures its most vital resource.

GAWGi was founded on a powerful and urgent insight: the atmosphere holds 12,900 cubic kilometres of clean, renewable water vapour. With the right technology, policy environment, and investment, this resource can be harvested at scale – serving communities from the most remote rural villages to the most densely populated megacities on Earth.

The initiative was designed not as a single organisation, but as a platform for unprecedented cross-sectoral collaboration – bridging governments, academia, industry, civil society, finance, and communities around a shared imperative.

The Water Crisis We Face

The global water crisis is not a future risk. It is a present emergency.

Climate change is intensifying droughts, floods, and extreme weather events that destroy water infrastructure and deplete natural water sources. Population growth and rapid urbanisation are outstripping the capacity of existing systems. Pollution is rendering vast quantities of water unsafe. Groundwater is being extracted at rates far beyond natural recharge in India, the Middle East, and the western United States.

Traditional approaches – centralised infrastructure, large-scale desalination, groundwater extraction – are proving inadequate, expensive, and vulnerable. The world needs new tools. AWG is one of the most promising.

Our Mission

To catalyze the global adoption and scaling of Atmospheric Water Generation (AWG) technology through coordinated cross-sectoral action - driving the research, policy, investment, and deployment needed to make clean water accessible to all, everywhere.

Our Vision

A world in which every person - regardless of geography, climate, or economic circumstance - has reliable, safe, and sustainable access to clean water. A world in which the air itself is recognised as a renewable source of life.

Our Values

Equity

Water is a human right. GAWGi prioritises access for the most vulnerable and underserved communities first.

Innovation

We champion bold ideas, emerging technologies, and disruptive thinking in service of an ancient challenge.

Collaboration

No single actor can solve the water crisis. Collective action across sectors, borders, and disciplines is the only path to systemic change.

Accountability

We commit to measurable outcomes, transparent reporting, and evidence-based decision-making.

Sustainability

Solutions must be environmentally sound, financially viable, and capable of delivering long-term impact.

Governance: The Global Advisory Board

GAWGi is guided by a Global Advisory Board comprising eminent professionals drawn from water science, climate policy, engineering, public health, finance, technology, and social innovation. The Board provides strategic oversight and shapes the long-term direction of the initiative.

The Global Advisory Board will be formally announced at GAWGi’s upcoming annual summits.
