Water is in the Air. Literally.

The Global Air Water Generation Initiative (GAWGi) is a worldwide movement to harvest clean, safe drinking water directly from the atmosphere – and deliver it to every community on Earth. Launched on World Environment Day 2025, GAWGi is uniting governments, scientists, investors, and communities to solve humanity’s most urgent crisis.

The World is Running Out of Water. But the Air is Full of It.

Right now, more than 2.2 billion people live without access to safe drinking water. Aquifers are being depleted faster than they can recharge. Rivers are drying up. Traditional infrastructure cannot keep pace with a growing, urbanising, and warming world.

And yet, the Earth’s atmosphere holds an estimated 12,900 cubic kilometres of clean, renewable water vapour – constantly replenished by the natural water cycle. The technology to harvest it exists. What has been missing is the global will, investment, and coordination to deploy it at scale. That is why GAWGi was created.

MISSION

“GAWGi was born on World Environment Day to catalyze a global transformation in how humanity secures its most vital resource. We unite governments, scientists, entrepreneurs, investors, and communities to scale Atmospheric Water Generation – so that no person ever goes without clean water.”

Four Pillars

Innovate

We support cutting-edge research and technology development to make AWG systems more efficient, affordable, and resilient - from university laboratories to community field deployments. We fund innovation competitions, collaborative research programmes, and real-world pilots that push the frontier of what AWG can achieve.

Advocate

We work alongside governments, multilateral institutions, and international bodies to embed AWG into national water strategies, climate resilience frameworks, and SDG 6 action plans. GAWGi is a voice for water security at the highest levels of global policy.

Invest

We facilitate the flow of public and private capital into AWG deployment - through blended finance structures, public-private partnerships, and impact investment designed to de-risk entry, especially in underserved and climate-vulnerable regions.

Deploy

We connect technology, funding, and communities - supporting pilot projects and helping to scale successful models from proof-of-concept to population-level impact. From rural villages to urban megacities, from schools to hospitals to disaster zones, AWG belongs everywhere.

One Technology. Multiple Goals.

One Technology. Multiple Goals.

SDG 6 - Clean Water and Sanitation

Providing safe drinking water and improving water management at the community level.

SDG 1 - No Poverty

Alleviating water-related economic burdens on households and creating new livelihood opportunities.

SDG 2 - Zero Hunger

Enabling sustainable small-scale irrigation and improving agricultural water security in drought-prone regions.

SDG 3 - Good Health and Well-being

Eliminating waterborne diseases, improving hygiene, and freeing time previously spent on water collection.

SDG 13 - Climate Action

Offering a low-carbon, decentralised water source that reduces dependence on energy-intensive conventional methods.
